Blackwater Lodge Summer Fishcamp
‘’It is the beautiful unspoilt places that fishing takes me to........................

It is the hope, the wonder, the childlike excitement, and the never ending learning that drives me..........................
It is the Peter Pan syndrome, the waders, the puddles, the sausages on the camp fire, the kettle brewing and the fishing in the rain.’’

(written by Glenda for a Why do you Fish? article).

Blackwater Lodge Fishcamp is a 7 night and 6 days summer salmon and trout fishing camp for young people.
Fishcamp is a new programme - the very first of it's kind in
Ireland.

It offers young people the opportunity to experience and enjoy the wonder of learning to fly fish
in the River Blackwater’s natural surroundings.
This camp will be based on learning in a safe and fun filled environment.

This camp is not just a camp that will teach young people how to fly fish.  This camp is about making new friends and having fun.
It is about being aware of the nature that is around them and there will be a Glenda Powell nature work-booklet to support this.
This camp will cover environmental issues such as catch and release, the reason for river protection and why clean waters are important.

In the evenings when not fishing, barbequing or relaxing, the participants will have the opportunity
to learn how to cook salmon and trout, and they will hold a special dinner party.
Each Wednesday evening through July and August, the
village of Ballyduff presents a show called ‘The Booley House’
– a celebration of traditional Irish culture of dancing, song and storytelling, which the participants will be able to attend.

The cost for this week is €750 to include all food, any necessary fishing licence and personal copies of course notes & workbook.
Equipment is provided for the course including
Loop rods, flies, waders, life-jackets, binoculars and safety glasses.

Tickets for the Booley House and any other excursions are also included.

The age groups are 13-15 and 15-17.
Participants will be supervised 24 hours per day.
There will be a maximum of 8 participants per week and there will be separate girl and boy weeks.
Weeks will run from Saturday to Saturday.
