Reasonable amounts of rain at the end of July had brought the river to
a perfect fishing level as we started into August, with two good floods
on the 2nd. & the 5th. From then on it was dry hot weather and the river has fallen to a very low summer level.

from the west later in the coming week.

The average height on the Ballyduff gauge for the whole
of August was 0.32m but only 0.19m for the last 10 days.
The Season Catch Total to date is now 324.
The Purple Patch
For the week from Sunday 4th., 110 fish were landed
for a mere 87 rod days.
During this period the average gauge height was 0.41m
The Great Sense of Anticipation
The very extensive tidal reaches of the river are now full
of fish just waiting for a rise in the water to run the river.
Pino Maisano from Italy recorded his Personal Best Fish
on two days in a row with fish of 10.5 & 14.1lb.
on the 14th. & 15th.
Another Italian angler landed 46 fish to 12lb. in the twenty
days to the 23rd. He has been fishing with us for 3 weeks
every August since 1993, & his previous Best Ever total
catch was 23. He also lost a very big fish (~25lb.) on the
18th. having played it for 10 mins & seeing the fish clearly.
