Blackwater Lodge Newsletter - August 18th., 2013

Best Total for August already since 2009!
Total Catch for Season almost 300!

This was the Blackwater below the Lodge
yesterday (17th). The Ballyduff gauge on 0.30m!

Some heavy rain in the upper catchment gave a
26cm rise at Millstreet peaking @ 04.00 on Friday.

It fell by 21cm by 04.00 this morning & then rose
another 6cm peaking at 07.30 today.

At Killavullen, it rose 17cm peaking at 16.00
on Friday & became slightly coloured & peaty.

It is back down 13cm at Killavullen @ 11.00
this morning, but the clarity is better.

At Ballyduff, the gauge was @ 0.23m Thursday
   morning & crept up - peaking @ 0.35cm @ 01.00
   yesterday (Saturday).

It has now fallen back to 0.27m @ 11.00 today.

Huge Fish Lost!

There was one very large fish lost today on the upper river which the angler
estimated at 1.10m long & about 25lb.,
He had played the fish for at least 10 minutes and had seen the fish very clearly.

The peaty water put fish off the take on Friday,
but it improved again yesterday when 7 to 12lb.
  were landed.
For the last 2 weeks to yesterday (Saturday 17th.) we
have landed 145 fish for 118 rod days, which included
days where there were 20, 21 & 22 fish caught.

The last week has yielded 35 fish to 14.1lb.
  for 31 rod days.

Pino Maisano from Italy recorded his
Personal Best Fish 2 days in a row with fish of
  10.5 & 14.1lb. on the 14th. & 15th.
Another Italian angler has landed 41 fish to 12lb.  in the last
15 days. He has been fishing with us since   1993, & it is his
best ever total even though he has 1 week still to go!
He lost the big fish mentioned above today.

The August Total is now 153 which is the
   best since 2009.

Prospects
The forecast is dry for the coming days so the water should settle once more.
There are large numbers of fish reported waiting in the tidal reaches all the way down to Youghal.

Availability of both fishing & accommodation is OK in the coming weeks.

Season Extension
Don't forget that we once again have an extension to the season this year until October 12th.
As last year, the 12 days in October will be fly only and catch & release.

Great Value Fishing!

Fishing is just €80/day for the remainder of the season.  B&B is also only €35/person sharing.
There is no problem for fishing & accommodation availability in the coming weeks until September when it is getting limited.
There is more availability for the season extension to October 12th.
