Extension
to the Salmon Season on the Blackwater to October 12th., 2012
The extension to the salmon angling season
has now been confirmed.
It will be fly only, single barbless hooks - Catch & release.
Biggest Fish of the Season - May 6 On May 6, Tim Harty caught a sea-liced 14.2lb. on fly at the Road Pool on
Ballinaroone beat on the lower river.
Best Day
of the Season - May 5 With the river fining down after the 4th. flood in
a fortnight conditions came good on the upper river.
Four fish to 7.4lb. have been reported - 3 from the upper beats - one on
fly & three on spinner. Two were released. The First Grilse is caught on April 9 Ken Stewart (APGAI-Ireland) caught on of the
earliest ever grilse on fly at the Hut Pool on Upper Kilmurry.
First Fish of the Season from the upper river -
March 4
Tom Donovan from Castletownroche was spinning the Junction Pool on
Bridgetown Abbey & landed a lovely fresh 7 pounder.
Best February Springer Total since 2004
May 6. Best of Season. 14.2lb. Fly!

Best February for Years!
The total of 5 springers for February
was the
(joint) best since 2004
& the
(joint) second best since 1994.
The 5 fish were caught for just
30 rod days between February 3-14.
First Angler to catch Two Springers in One Day!
On April3, Kieran Conlon caught 2 sea-liced fish on fly in 2 casts on Lower
Kilmurry.
The First Grilse is Caught on April 9!
Ken Stewart (Dublin) caught the first grilse of 2012
on fly on the Hut Pool on Upper Kilmurry.
It's probably the earliest ever
grilse recorded on the fishery.
May 6. Best of 2012 Season to date - 14.2lb.

On May 6, Tim Harty caught a sea-liced 14.2lb. on fly
at the Road Pool on Ballinaroone beat on the lower river.

Highlights Feb. 3:
First Springer caught! By me
in only 1 hour fishing. Landed a kelt as well.
Feb. 5: River up 12cm & clarity good. 6 rods have gone out.
Second & Third Springers caught!
Paul Howard caught his first ever
springer in the morning on his first visit to the river. His friend Ger
McCarthy caught
another
in the afternoon. They were taken on spinner on Lower Kilmurry.
They
saw a good number of springers in the afternoon.
Feb. 8: Fourth Springer. One small very fresh fish ~4lb. released on spinner.
Feb. 14: Fifth Springer. One fresh fish ~8lb. released on spinner.
March 3: Biggest Fish so far & on fly!
Shane Kinsella (Wicklow) netted the biggest
so far this year after playing it for over 20 mins. Bar of fresh silver
estimated at 12lb.
March 4: First Fish off the Upper River.
Tom Donovan caught a very fresh 7 pounder
from the Junction Pool at Bridgetown Abbey.
March 17: Happy Paddy's Day. Third Springer
for March caught!
PJ Burns caught a beautiful 8.2 pounder on spinner Ballygally - on the
lowest beat.
March 25: Fourth Springer
for March caught!
Conor Arnold caught a 7 pounder on fly/floating line on Lower Kilmurry.
April 3: First Angler this year to catch Two
in One Day (& on fly!).
Kieran Conlon (Cork) caught 2 sea-liced springers in 2 casts on fly from
the same lie at
the
head of the Island Stream on Lower Kilmurry. The fish were like peas in
a pod.
He
released the first he caught & promptly caught a second next cast which
weighed in
@
8.3lb. He was seeing a few fish showing all day.
April 4: John Lalor (Cahir) caught
his first of the season. ~6lb. on fly on Lower Kilmurry. April 3: First
First Salmon this year.
Joe Tynan caught his very first salmon weighing
8.4lb
on spinner on Lower Kilmurry.
April 9: First Grilse!
Sea-liced fish ~4lb. caught by Ken Stewart
(Dublin) on fly
at the
Hut Pool on Upper Kilmurry.
April 14: Best Fish of Season!
Jim Shanahan caught a 12.4lb on spinner
on Ballinaroone.
April 15: 7.4lb. sea-liced for Terry O'Keeffe on spinner from the
lower river (his first of season).
One fish also lost on Upper Kilmurry.
April 16: An 8 pounder for Pat Donovan on spinner from Bridgetown
Abbey (upper river)
- his first of the season.
May 5: Best Day of Season!
Four fish caught (2 released) & two fish lost.
Garry O'Shea (Dungarvan) released a 6 lb.
fish on spinner on our
very top beat just
below Mallow. Jim Shanahan
took a very fresh 7.3lb on spinner at Bridgetown Abbey,
Mick Kennedy
released a very fresh 7lb. on fly at Ballincurrig, & a very fresh 7.4lb.
was
caught
on spinner from Kents (lower river) by PJ Burns.
May 6: Best Fish of Season!
Tim Harty caught a sea-liced

Ballinaroone beat on the lower river. Another fish of 10.4lb. was caught
on spinner
from
the very top beat Ballygarrett.
May 7: A party of 4 Norwegians started their week yesterday &
hooked 6 on fly,
but only
landed one - a sea-liced grilse of #4lb. released.
May 8: Two fish to 7.5lb from the upper river. One on fly, one on
worms.
May 9: 13.00 Two fish to 8lb. already reported from the upper
river. One on fly, one on spinner.
